Incident Description:
On January 12, 2020, the Shropshire Star reported a fire at a wood panel manufacturer in Chirk, UK.
Firefighters arrived soon after the fire was detected in a long log wall at around 2:00 a.m. They disassembled the wall to access the flames and remained at the scene into the afternoon.
No one was injured and the company confirmed that the fire was “under control”. The Chirk councillor said people had been contacting him from as far away as Acrefair and Cefn Mawr to complain about the acrid smoke.
Previous Incidents:
The BBC reported that the Chirk location had experienced two previous fires. One broke out in one of the filter towers in July 2018 after a major fire in September 2017. Residents have also sought legal action over the factory’s dust emissions.
