It was established in 1971 and has cutting rights to over 33,000 hectares of plantation forests at five locations in Hawke’s Bay. The Whirinaki location has been producing Thermo Mechanical Pulp (TMP) for over 45 years.
Incident Description:
On August 18, 2021, the New Zealand Herald reported a silo fire at a wood production plant in Whirinaki, New Zealand.
At around 4:00 a.m., firefighters from Bayview and Napier were called to extinguish a fire in a silo, just over 12 hours after extinguishing an earlier fire at the mill.
The silo fire took crews roughly 90 minutes to fully extinguish. No injuries were reported.
