Incident Description:
On January 3, 2021, News Center Maine reported a fire inside a flavour and fragrance manufacturing plant in Rockland, Maine.
Workers noticed the fire at around 4:45 p.m. and tried to put it out, but were unable to due to the fumes being given off by the burning product. Several fire crews arrived due to the hazardous substances in the facility. A total of 30 personnel responded.
Firefighters wore self-contained breathing apparatus as they put out most of the flames, using approximately 500 gallons of water and making use of the fire hydrants already established on the campus.
Officials stated that the fire burned in the processing area and was contained to a single building. They said that the cause was overheated product.
No injuries were reported.
