Incident Description:
On July 12, 2021, KLCC reported a fire at a lumber mill in Junction City, Oregon.
The fire began at around 4:30 p.m. It sent up towering black plumes of smoke and burned all the log piles on the property. Approximately 35 different organizations helped put it out, including fire and law enforcement agencies from multiple counties.
The fire was contained to the piles of wood products and did not burn any mill structures. Several nearby residents were put on alert for evacuation in case the fire spread, but were not required to leave.
After firefighters left, the company took over monitoring the smouldering logs and stumps. Sprinklers were also installed to pump water on the materials to keep them wet.
No injuries were reported.
Previous Incidents
According to KEZI, this incident is the company’s third fire since 2017. Only a month ago, the fire department responded to a fire at the mill, and was preparing to discuss fire safety measures with management when this incident occurred.
