Incident Description:
On June 6, 2023, SHZ reported a dust explosion in a grain storage silo at the port in Rendsburg, Germany.
The building was promptly evacuated and a large area at the district port was cordoned off as part of the operation. Firefighters from Rendsburg and Schacht-Audorf successfully put out the basement fire.
Upon further investigation, emergency services determined that the explosion originated from the basement, caused by an overheated machine. It generated dust that spread up to the 5th floor. The silo contained approximately 5,000 tons of grain and 1,000 tons of finished feed.
The operation concluded around 5:25 p.m., and the road was reopened to normal traffic.
No injuries were reported.
