Incident Description:
On September 25, 2018, KFVS reported a fire at a grain elevator in Fredericktown, Missouri. Fire crews arrived shortly after 9:00 a.m. and noticed that the fire was creating highly smoky conditions. They made an initial entry at first to fight the fire but it was too hot, so they then used two ladder engines and started pouring water into the top of the grain bin after peeling back the metal in areas. It took them over six hours to get the fire under control.
There were no injuries reported, although one firefighter was treated on scene for heat exhaustion. Around 120 tons of grain was lost.
OSHA Inspections:
An establishment search showed one OSHA inspection for Madison County Farm Supply but it was not flagged for combustible dust.
