Description of Grain Dust Fire:
On January 8, 2018 the news agency LimaOhio.com reported a fire at an oilseed processing plant in Delphos, Ohio. It broke out after a grain dryer experienced a mechanical failure and caught the soybeans inside of it on fire.
When firefighters arrived soon after 7:14 p.m., they found smoke and flames coming from the dryer three stories high. The Fire Chief admitted that frozen lines made firefighting efforts difficult, but the scene was finally cleared at 10:30 p.m.
No injuries were reported and property damage is unknown.
According to the Delphos Herald, on January 14, 2015, fire and rescue spent more than five hours fighting a dryer fire at the Bunge North America plant. The blaze, which was reported at 12:17 a.m., was contained to a stainless steel dryer unit and no damages were reported other than a portion of the 5,000 bushels of soybeans in the dryer at the time.
