Incident Description:
On March 2, 2022, Ripon Press reported a dust collector fire at a school in Waupun, Wisconsin.
Waupun fire crews responded at 3:35 p.m. and found smoke coming from the dust collector located outside the wood shop. All students had been removed from the shop area, so firefighters knocked down the fire while also using ventilation fans to remove smoke that had filtered into the wood shop via the duct work.
While fire crews were working on overhauling and ventilating the shop, they observed light smoke coming from a drum sander machine and found fire smouldering within it. They worked with school staff to open up the machine so the fire could be extinguished.
No injuries were reported. Damage was contained to the dust collector and the drum sander.
