Incident Description:
On June 10, 2019, Powder & Bulk Solids reported an explosion and fire at an industrial facility in San Leandro, California.
Alameda County firefighters arrived at the facility shortly after 11:30 a.m. in response to a report about a smoking hopper. Contractors had been welding the hopper to disassemble it, unaware that it contained sawdust. The welding ignited the sawdust, and when the hopper shifted, the resulting dust cloud led to a dust explosion and fire.
No workers were injured but one firefighter received hospital treatment for heat-related issues.
