Incident Description:
On October 6, 2022, the Daily Sentinel reported a dust collector fire at a small engine production plant in Sherrill, New York.
The employees called 911 shortly after 6 p.m. Firefighters from six local departments responded to the scene and doused the flames inside the two-story outdoor dust collection unit. In order to gain access to the machinery’s inner workings, the chief said they had to disassemble the unit.
According to the Sherrill-Kenwood Fire Department, the fire destroyed the dust collector and caused smoke damage throughout the main facility. The Third Assistant Fire Chief confirmed that the fire was in the dust collection vents.
It took about 15 to 20 minutes for the fire to be brought under control. According to the chief, they also had to dismantle some of the ductwork inside the building to prevent the flames from spreading.
No one was injured and all employees evacuated the building. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
