On July 9, 2023, Merkur reported a fire at a grain processing facility in Hamburg, Germany.
Multiple fire brigades immediately responded to the scene at 1:15 a.m. Upon arrival, they encountered thick smoke and the smell of burning, prompting the escalation of the operation to the third alarm level.
Over the course of the next 10 hours, approximately 80 emergency service personnel, various volunteer fire departments, three platoons from the professional fire brigade, and specialized vehicles like cranes and telescopic mast vehicles were all engaged in battling the smouldering fire within the conveyor system.
In order to locate the source of the fire, supply lines and a ventilation line were opened. The embers were eventually discovered in the grain conveyor system and promptly extinguished by the firefighters.
No injuries were reported.
