According to its Facebook page, Atlantic Bioheat is a bioenergy company in Wellington, PEI. It owns and maintains biomass heating units from forest products that are installed in provincial buildings.
Incident Description:
On January 15, 2023, the CBC reported a fire at a biomass heating company in Wellington, PEI.
The first firefighters were called to the scene around 8:00 a.m. They learned that there were three trucks parked in the warehouse. The shipment also included woodchips destined for heater customers, and it was believed that these chips smouldered and ignited.
According to a Wellington Fire Department spokesman, firefighters soon realized that it would be impossible to save what was inside the building. The intense heat reduced the trucks to ashes.
No injuries were reported.
