According to its profile on Hoover’s, IFG Port Holdings, LLC opened its export grain terminal in Lake Charles, Louisiana. It connects Southwest Louisiana to the nation’s grain export system, making the Port of Lake Charles a premier export point for grains. The terminal presently employs around 20 people.
Description of Grain Dust Explosion:
On July 2, 2018 Feed & Grain reported an explosion inside a grain silo at the Port of Lake Charles in Lake Charles, LA. The blast tore off the top of the silo, blew open the doors of the port’s administration building, and damaged nearby vehicles. The Port Director told the American Press that the rest of the silo was not damaged.
There were no reported injuries and all employees were accounted for. The cause of the explosion, which took place at around 11:30 a.m., is still under investigation.
