According to its website, Paranaguá Port is Brazil’s second largest port in tonnage and third largest for container shipping. It is a major export location for the country’s agricultural products, particularly soybeans and soybean meal. It opened as a private wharf in 1872 and, in 1917, the State of Paraná took over and expanded it.
Incident Description:
On July 23, 2020, the Hellenic Shipping News reported a fire at the Port of Paranaguá in Paranaguá, Brazil.
The fire affected the conveyor belts at two grain terminals, which were part of an export corridor comprising 11 terminals. The port operator said that damage was still being assessed, but soymeal and soybean loading resumed at the nine terminals not affected by the fire. They also confirmed that no one had been injured.
