Incident Description:
On April 14, 2019, KATV reported a fire at a waste facility in Hot Spring County, Arkansas.
Nine fire departments consisting of nearly 60 firefighters arrived at the facility after an EMT on route to work called 911 to report smoke. They found the fire in a wood-grinding building. The Rockport Volunteer Fire Chief said that 500,000 tons of product smoldered and the building itself was destroyed.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported that a lot of wood and scrap was burning inside the building, but firefighters were unable to get to the bottom of the scrap where the fire is located. The Rockport Volunteer Fire Chief said that firefighters would have to go to the site every day until the fire got to the point that it could be safely put out.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire, which was expected to burn for a few weeks, is under investigation.
