Incident Description:
On April 14, 2019, the County Press reported a dust collector fire at a pallet manufacturing company in Lapeer, Michigan.
Nearly 50 firefighters from Elba Township, Lapeer Fire & Rescue, Hadley Township and Davison-Richfield reached the scene shortly after 5:31 p.m. They quickly extinguished the flames but remained on site for nearly four hours, making sure that the fire had not worked its way into the sawdust and woodpile.
No injuries were reported and damage was confined to the dust collector. The fire was attributed to sparks from a grinder.
OSHA Inspections:
An establishment search turned up one OSHA inspection for DT Fowler but it was not flagged for combustible dust.
