Incident Description:
On November 6, 2018, the Morning Journal reported an early-morning fire at a hardwood furniture manufacturer in Columbiana, Ohio.
The fire was in the manufacturer’s maintenance building. Firefighters from four departments quickly brought the flames under control using 8,000 gallons of water shuttled from a nearby fill site.
The Columbiana assistant fire chief said that the crews also had to extinguish a fire that had gotten into the sawdust collection pipes running from the maintenance building into a 50-foot high silo full of sawdust. The top four inches of sawdust were smouldering so a ladder truck was brought in to get water to the top.
No injuries were reported but the outbuilding was destroyed along with some implements and tools.
