According to the company website, Korea South-East Power Company was formed in 2001 after separating from the electricity generation department of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). It is headquartered in Jinju, South Korea and provides electricity in Korea and internationally. The company is also engaged in the operation and maintenance of utility plants and the manufacture of fly ash industrial materials. The Yeosu coal-fired power plant has a total installed capacity of 680 MW.
Incident Description:
On October 4, 2018, the Korea Herald reported a fire at a thermal power plant in Yeosu, South Korea. It started in a 50-meter-high coal silo at around 11:16 a.m. when the workers were changing a filter for a dust collector.
According to police, flames shot out of the silo as soon as the workers opened its manhole to confirm there was smoke inside. One person was killed and four others were injured. The fire was extinguished at around 12:12 p.m. The police are still investigating the cause.
