Incident Description:
On June 9, 2023, Tages Zeitung reported a fire at a district heating plant in Tramin, Italy.
At 3:54 p.m., Tramin firefighters received a call regarding a smouldering fire in a pellet silo of the district heating plant. The Tramin fire brigade spent several hours locating and removing embers, as well as clearing the silo of pellets. An external company was enlisted to assist; however, due to the significant volume of pellets stored, clearing the silo proved challenging. A thermal imaging camera was used to inspect the entire system.
Work resumed the following morning at 6:00 a.m. to address the persistent smouldering fire. Another specialized company was called in to suction out a substantial amount of pellets.
No injuries were reported, but the classes at a nearby school were canceled as a precaution.
