Incident Description:
On April 16, 2023, the Barron News-Shield reported a fire at an animal feed store in Barron, Wisconsin.
The fire broke out in the cyclone room of the feed mill, prompting firefighters from three departments to respond. Two employees attempted to put out the fire but had to flee to the roof of the building for safety. With the assistance of a ladder truck, they were successfully rescued, and there were no injuries.
Despite significant damage to the facility, the smoke that drifted from the site posed no risk to the community as only feed was burning, not chemicals. The fire was isolated from the rest of the facility, but some feed was still smouldering the following day.
Fire crews remained on scene until 7:15 p.m. A total of 26 firefighters and eight trucks were involved in extinguishing the fire.
