On February 4, 2023, CBS News reported a fire at a farm in Osakis, Minnesota.
The Osakis Fire Department responded to the silo fire shortly after 11:30 a.m. The owner helped them out by hauling smouldering corn from the silo in his skid loader. As soon as he had piled it up, he covered it with snow taken from nearby snow banks.
As firefighters extinguished the fire, the top of the silo blew off due to built-up gases and struck two fire trucks. As a result of the damage sustained by one of the vehicles, it had to be taken out of service.
A firefighter was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to the Echo Press, the fire is believed to have started from a bearing going out in the bottom of the silo.
