Incident Description:
On January 3, 2023, L’Union reported a silo fire at an agricultural cooperative in Bussy-Lettrée, France.
The fire was reported at around noon, at which time employees were also evacuated. Around thirty firefighters from Châlons-en-Champagne, Vertus, Fère-Champenoise and Sommesous responded immediately. Significant resources were mobilized, including four water carriers, a medical transport vehicle, and a large ladder.
Firefighting lasted more than four hours. Investigators identified the cause as friction in the elevator head of the silo. This triggered a hot spot, which caused the dust to burn. The latter was then sucked into the bag filter and flames then came out.
No injuries were reported.
