Incident Description:
On November 29, 2022, Yahoo Taiwan reported a fire at a coal-fired power plant in Taichung City, Taiwan.
The Taichung Harbor Fire Brigade received a report at 6:57 that a coal excavator at the power plant caught fire, and dispatched nine vehicles with 21 firefighters. The Taichung City Fire Department sent two vehicles with seven personnel.
Firefighters arrived at 7:16 a.m. and found that the fixed stacker was smoking. The fire was brought under control at 7:34 a.m. and extinguished at 7:49 a.m.
According to the police, the front end of the coal stacker was not burned, and the tip of the inclined coal belt was the first place to emit smoke. Coal dust covered the site, making officials suspect that a dust fire had occurred.
No one was injured, but an 85-metre coal conveyor belt was burned, and two coal transfer towers of about 20 square metres each were also damaged. The cause is under investigation.
