Incident Description:
On October 3, 2022, KCHI reported a fire at an animal feed producer in Chillicothe, Missouri.
Chillicothe Fire Department was summoned due to smoke in the basement. Firefighters responded to the call two minutes after it was received at 5:00 a.m. On arrival, they learned that there was a hot spot in one of the bins.
Two firefighters used air-packs, a thermal camera, and shovels to locate a large pile of smouldering mashed grain beneath the hopper. Shovels and a wheelbarrow were used to clear the burned area and smouldering grain, and fans cooled the site.
The cause of the fire was not identified, although employees said they had carried out weld repairs on the equipment over the weekend, but monitored the area for several hours with no problems.
No injuries were reported.
