Incident Description:
On August 12, 2022, Sonoticias reported a fire at a cotton mill in Lucas do Rio Verde, Brazil.
The fire consumed about 100 rolls of fresh cotton, causing a loss of R$ 1.5 million. The fire department had to use approximately 200,000 litres of water to extinguish the flames and prevent them from spreading.
According to the fire department, ten soldiers were deployed to fight the fire, which were divided into two distinct points. The military firefighters, with support from company employees, managed to extinguish the fire in the cotton rolls, which were stored in the yard.
According to firefighters, there were also tons of cottonseed stored inside a warehouse, where the fire was also in the active and growing phase. After four continuous hours of fire fighting, the team was successful in putting out the fire, but firefighters still needed to cool the load and mitigate the spread of smoke.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
