Incident Description:
On January 14, 2022, Cenario MT reported a fire at a grain processing plant in Lucas do Rio Verde, Brazil.
Firefighters were called at around 2:00 p.m., after the company fire brigade was unable to extinguish the fire in the silos. Multiple garrisons, including off-duty military members, then fought to keep the flames under control. The fire was concentrated in one of the silos and teams feared the flames could spread to other sectors.
One firefighter stated that the difficulty in containing the fire was due to the large volume of soy in the silo. The fire was consuming the oilseeds and gaining access to the centre of the silo was challenging. Over 150,000 litres of water were used.
No injuries were reported.
