According to the company website, The Andersons Denison Ethanol LLC plant produces 65 million gallons of ethanol per year and has an adjacent 22 million bushel grain terminal with direct access to two Iowa railroads. The Andersons group manages the operations at the plant and provides grain origination and dried distillers grains and ethanol marketing services.
Description of Grain Dust Fire:
On January 23, 2018, Powder & Bulk Solids reported a fire at an ethanol production plant in Denison, Iowa. The Denison Fire Chief stated that arriving fire crews found flames in a grain bin and on a 100 ft length of conveyor belt connected to the bin. He added that work had been performed on the conveyor system the previous day.
Firefighters arrived at 12:34 p.m. and remained on the scene until around 3:00 p.m. Company personnel also locked out and tagged out all the power, reducing risk to firefighters. According to Feed & Grain, fire crews left equipment at the site in case the smouldering grain ignited again.
No injuries were reported and total property damage is unknown.
