Incident Description:
On February 1, 2021, Noen.at reported an explosion at a heating plant in Deutsch-Wagram, Austria.
The building was badly damaged and nearly collapsed due to the enormous amount of pressure released. Some debris was scattered within a radius of up to 30 metres.
The heating plant essentially consisted of two elements: the pellet storage above and the boiler room below. According to fire officials, the explosion came from the upper part of the building- the location of the pellet storage area.
After the fire brigade confirmed that there were no people in the building, the upper part of the building was ordered demolished immediately.
Since the heating plant stood alone on a property, no adjacent buildings were damaged. There were also no injuries. The cause of the explosion is currently the subject of a police investigation.
