On December 11, 2022, 247UReports reported a fire that caused millions of naira of damaged products, including machinery, timber, and wooden doors, at a market in Onitsha, Nigeria.
The fire was reportedly started by sparks that came from a wood smoothing machine, and spread rapidly when sparks landed on piles of wood dust. The fire was largely controlled by traders thanks to a large water borehole in the market, before fire crews arrived and helped to extinguish it.
