Incident Description:
On May 12, 2020, WNEM reported an explosion and fire in a pulp pellet bin at a beet sugar processor in Caro, Michigan.
When fire crews arrived soon after 1:47 p.m., they found that two of the bin’s 20 roof panels had been blown off. One was on the ground and the other was left hanging from the roof.
A company spokesperson confirmed that employees and Caro Fire had been monitoring a hotspot in the bin for a couple of weeks. Crews were removing pellets from the bin when they ignited.
The fire was contained and no one was injured.
