Incident Description:
On October 18, 2023, Perfil Multi reported a lumber processing facility in Rio Negrinho, Brazil.
Upon arrival, the fire brigade saw a large, isolated block of about 2500 square metres on fire. This block contained two wood drying ovens, each covering an area of around 63 square metres and filled with approximately 40 cubic metres of pine wood. One of these ovens was already fully consumed by the fire.
Given the scale of the fire, additional firefighting teams were summoned from the neighbouring city of São Bento do Sul. The firefighters launched an intensive operation, attacking the flames through side openings and air ducts in the building’s roof while also working to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent structures.
The battle against the flames was arduous and prolonged, lasting about four hours. During this time, 47,000 litres of water were deployed to bring the situation under control. In the aftermath, the site was handed over to the custody of the company owner, marking the end of a challenging and intense firefighting effort.
No injuries were reported.
