Incident Description:
On June 16, 2021, the Visalia Times Delta reported a fire at a lumber mill outside Auberry, California.
Firefighters hurried to the scene and fought to contain it as it spread to nearby wildland. By 1:30 p.m. the ‘Deck Fire,’ as it was called, was covering three to four acres of wildland in addition to the five-acre lot of lumber. Helicopters and air tankers were deployed to drop water and retardant to contain the spread.
Parts of the town were evacuated and the road outside the mill were closed to support firefighting efforts. Power was also shut off to more than 3,000 customers.
No injuries were reported. According to Your Central Valley, sparks from a saw may have set the logs on fire.
