Incident Description:
On May 31, 2023, NDR reported a dust explosion at a wood products manufacturer in Wismar, Germany.
The explosion occurred in the production area where OSB boards are made. The plant has a modern dust extraction system in place to prevent deflagration risks, raising questions as to why it failed. According to the police, two minor injuries were reported, with one person receiving hospital treatment but later discharged. Some employees also experienced shock, as stated by the city of Wismar. Moderate smoke emerged during the firefighting efforts, but there was no danger to the surrounding area.
Over 200 emergency personnel from professional and volunteer fire brigades in Wismar, Neukloster, Friedenshof, Altstadt, and Neu Kaliß were deployed into the night. The police estimate the damages at one million euros.
Previous Incidents
