Incident Description:
On November 8, 2021, Kearney Hub reported a smouldering fire at a dehydrated alfalfa plant in Odessa, Nebraska. The fire created a haze that motorists could see from the highway.
At 5:57 p.m. the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of smouldering alfalfa. Firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming from a 60-foot by 150-foot metal grain storage building containing dehydrated alfalfa pellets.
A large-scale removal of the product was required to properly extinguish the fire due to the material and location. The company began removing as much product as necessary to reach the smoldering material.
Although the fire is not considered “under control,” it is contained to the building of origin and poses no danger to the public.
No injuries were reported.
