Incident Description:
On April 13, 2023, Radio Bamberg reported a plastic silo fire at a recycling plant in Memmingen, Germany.
Investigations suggested that a defective electric motor on the bottom of a filter system was the cause of the fire, which took about four hours to extinguish and caused damage estimated at around 5,000 euros.
Police reported that a firefighter was moderately injured in the fire, which was caused by a deflagration when a hatch was opened. He was taken to the hospital by helicopter while the company’s employees were unharmed.
While the fire posed no danger to the surrounding area, police had advised residents to temporarily close windows and doors due to the heavy smoke.
