Incident Description:
On January 10, 2019, the Rome Sentinel reported a silo fire at a cattle farm in Trenton, New York.
Firefighters from three volunteer fire departments responded to a 911 call at around 7:30 a.m. They found one of four silos burning inside. All four had been scorched during a barn fire on Sunday, January 6, in which nearly 200 cows were killed.
The firefighters brought a ladder truck to access the grain inside the silo and douse it. According to the Trenton Joint Fire District Chief, volunteers had to keep an eye on the structure for a week, knocking down flare-ups.
On January 15, the Rome Sentinel reported that the silo was torn down following yet another flare-up. The corn located deep in the silo was still smouldering and needed to be doused again. The farm owners had planned to knock the silo down anyway, so on January 14, the work was done while crews kept the road blocked off.
No injuries were reported and the value of the property damage is unknown.

On January 7, 2019, the Rome Sentinel reported a large barn fire at the Terry Jones farm. Volunteers from seven fire departments fought the flames throughout the day, using multiple stream operations and an aerial truck.
Fire officials stated that the cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction in a tractor that had been used to spread manure earlier that morning. No one was in the barn when it started, but over 200 cattle were killed because the smoke, flames, and high heat made it impossible to get them out.
