Incident Description:
On October 26, 2018, the Clacton Gazette reported a fire at a sawdust-filled silo in Clacton-on-Sea, UK. When fire crews from Clacton and Weeley arrived soon after 9:00 a.m., they found that the fire in the 16-foot-tall silo had made significant progress.
Firefighters worked hard to extinguish the flames, and by 10:36 a.m. were able to work from within the silo. The teams had to surround the fire before they were finally able to put it out, but according to the Essex County Fire & Rescue Service, a nearby storage silo containing six tons of sawdust was also affected. Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to monitor hotspots and eventually left 1.08 p.m.
Some of the sawdust being stored in the second silo was damaged. An investigation is underway to identify the cause of the fire, but it is not being treated as suspicious. No injuries were reported.
