Incident Description:
On August 30, 2021, the Somerset County Gazette reported a fire in a grain silo in Chewton Mendip, UK.
The Bridgwater, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet and Wells fire crews were dispatched to the site shortly after 3:10 p.m.
After crews arrived, they assisted the farmer to drain the grain and then used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet from the top of the silo. Upon arrival of the hydraulic platform, the access panels from the silo were removed in order to gain access to the fire. One main jet and a thermal imaging camera were also used to extinguish the flames.
A small amount of wheat was damaged by the fire, which was accidental.
No injuries were reported.
