Incident Description:
On September 21, 2018, The Province reported a structural fire at a dairy farm in Agassiz, British Columbia. Firefighters were called to the farm shortly after 10:00 p.m. and found several of its buildings engulfed in flames. Local farmers evacuated a barn of nearly 200 cows while the fire crews dealt with the fire.
The Agassiz Fire Chief said it was believed that the fire started when the wood-built silo bunker, where corn silage and hay was stored, overheated, igniting the hay.
According to the Agassiz-Harrison Observer, five cows were killed in the fire but no people were injured. The value of the property damage is not known, although the farm was almost totally consumed.
