Description of Grain Dust Fire:
On May 29, 2018, Fox 47 News reported an explosion and fire at a feed and pet supply store in Fowlerville, Michigan. Witnesses told the news station that at around 1:07 p.m., they heard what sounded like an explosion, followed by thick black smoke and debris flying off the store’s silo, where grain intended for animal feed was stored.
Firefighters worked in 90-degree heat to extinguish the fire. The Fowlerville Area Fire Department Deputy Chief said that a cart inside a storage building caught fire for unknown reasons and spread quickly, destroying the building and an adjacent grain dryer.
Fire crews were concerned over pesticides stored inside the building, so residents in the immediate area were evacuated.
There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
