Incident Description:
On August 31, 2018, information portal The News reported a fire at a sawmill in Pictou, Nova Scotia. The owner’s wife saw flames issuing from the building at around 1:00 a.m. when she was taking the family dog outside. When fire crews arrived approximately 10 minutes later, they extinguished the fire but not before it destroyed a few rough logs, a large forklift, and the metal framework of the sawmill.
The owner told reporters that the incident “could have been worse.” He confirmed that the rough-lumber sawmill had been destroyed but some lumber remained, along with the planer to finish it, so the company was still in business.
No injuries were reported.
