Previous Incidents:
1057 News reported that another fire took place at Crossville Hardwoods on May 12. It ignited in a belt fender and spread into a small silo containing wood particles. A recently-installed fire suppression system kept the fire in check until firefighters arrived and put it out. They remained on the scene for an additional three to four hours, making sure that embers did not spread. No injuries were reported.
The same article reported two more fires at the facility:
- On March 20, 2018, a fire occurred in a 30-foot hopper at the rear of the facility and a nearby tractor-trailer containing sawdust. A spark from welding work done earlier that day had travelled through the air duct system into the hopper, igniting the sawdust.
- In June 2017, a fire ignited in the bottom fan system of one of the silos. It ran the length of the facility’s duct system, swept through a second silo, and entered a third one. No injuries were reported.
OSHA Inspections:
An establishment search turned up three OSHA inspections, one of which was flagged for combustible dust.
