Incident Description:
On July 15, 2019, WJAC TV reported a morning fire at a sawmill in Brockway, Pennsylvania.
Several fire crews responded. The Brockway Volunteer Hose Company Chief said that several employees were welding in the sawmill’s debarking area when sparks landed on some sawdust and ignited it.
According to Explore Jefferson, these employees thought they had wetted down all the sparks. They went to lunch and saw smoke when they came back. They tried to put it out, but it was too involved, so they called the fire department.
According to officials, the mill part of the structure was completely destroyed. An excavator and loader came to clean it out and pull the tin off the roof for the firefighters to look for hotspots.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire has not yet been released.
