Incident Description:
On October 26, 2022, 10 News reported a fire at a hardwood flooring manufacturer in Crossville, Tennessee.
Firefighters arrived soon after the fire was detected at around 6:15 a.m. Crews said an 80-foot silo filled with sawdust had caught fire. The silo got hotter as the day went on despite crews’ efforts to put out the flames.
At around 10:00 a.m. a spark towards the bottom of the silo heated up and caused a spark, causing pressure to build toward the top as the fire continued. In the aftermath of the explosion, the fire again caught dry patches of sawdust.
Crews used around 100,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire, depleting all of their resources.
No injuries were reported.
