Incident Description:
On September 20, 2018, NWI reported a dust fire at a scrap metal smelting and refining facility in Whiting, Indiana. When firefighters arrived at around 11:35 a.m., they discovered the fire in a baghouse. The Fire Chief said later that the smoke was “pretty bad…. I saw it all the way from 129th and Calumet.”
Firefighters climbed a metal structure to get to the baghouse, where they opened a door and doused the flames with water until the fire was out.
No injuries were reported and no information about property damage was available.
