Incident Description:
On April 3, 2021, the State Journal-Register reported a fire at an agricultural co-op in Springfield, Illinois.
The Springfield Fire Department responded shortly before 3:30 p.m. They could see the smoke from several miles away and, upon arrival, found a wood frame building on fire and caving in on one side. As the structure began to collapse, it took down multiple power lines. According to WCIA, a nearby state highway was closed down.
Firefighters worked together for several hours to attack the fire from the exterior of the building. The property owner showed up with heavy machinery to pull out debris and help firefighters access the interior.
Two workers who were inside the building were both able to exit without injury, but the building was completely destroyed. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
