Incident Description:
On July 10, 2019, the Shenandoah Sentinel reported a fire at a grain mill in Ringtown, Pennsylvania.
Firefighters arrived shortly after 1:00 a.m. When they found fire coming through the mill roof, they quickly upgraded the incident to a second alarm with a tanker task force. As the silo was engulfed, embers flew at least 50 feet into the air and a glow could be seen from miles away.
A witness said that the flames started from the back of the mill and that she heard “popping going off.”
Firefighters from multiple counties converged on the scene to fight the fire. According to the Ringtown Valley Fire Chief, the fire was brought under control just before 4:00 a.m. and no injuries were reported.
By 4:30 a.m., some firefighting units were sent home while others remained at the site to douse hotspots.
Fire officials told WNEP 16 that due to the heavy damage, the cause of the fire remains unknown.
