Incident Description:
On April 28, 2019, WLOS reported a fire at a zinc products company in Mooresboro, North Carolina.
Firefighters fought the flames until a wind shift resulting in all personnel being removed from the scene. Officials let the fire burn itself out.
An evacuation was issued while the Environmental Protection Agency tested air quality, concerned over the presence of sulfuric acid inside the plant. It affected residents in a half-mile radius around the facility. U.S.-221 was also temporarily closed in both directions near Hines Road due to the fire.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
