According to its website, NorSask Forest Productions is the largest First Nations-owned sawmill in Canada. It was founded in 1971, has 100 full-time employees, and produces SPF (spruce, pine, fir) stud lumber sold in Canada, the United States and overseas.
Incident Description:
On March 29, 2021, Meadow Lake Now reported a fire at a sawmill in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan.
The Meadow Lake Fire Department was alerted to the incident nearly a half-hour before noon. It worked with the Loon Lake and Glaslyn Fire Departments to extinguish the fire. Firefighters worked on controlling and monitoring the area until approximately 7:00 p.m. that night.
Two lumber-drying kilns were destroyed but no injuries were reported. According to Canadian Forest Industries, production at the sawmill has been paused while clean-up is underway, and will resume once it is deemed safe.
