Incident Description:
On November 12, 2021, ABC News reported an explosion at a rosin and turpentine manufacturer in Isis Central, Australia.
In a Facebook post, an area resident called it “a huge explosion.” Another local resident posted that “it sounded like a bomb went off and shook the whole house.”
Fire broke out at the factory at around 9:30 p.m., prompting the police to declare an emergency. After several hours of fighting the fire, nine fire crews were able to extinguish it.
Five employees were working at the site when the explosion occurred, according to Queensland police. A man was taken to hospital with serious head injuries and burns.
As of the time of the incident, up to 5,000 litres of solvents and wood chips were being processed at the plant.
Police said the explosion was not suspicious and workplace health and safety officers were investigating.
